PDF - 135 pages - 37,6 Mb
Robert Nanteuil (1623 - 1678) began by making portrait drawings. He then developed an engraving technique and received recognition for his engraving of Cardinal Mazarin. He was appointed engraver and designer to King Louis XIV and inspired the king to grant engravers the privileges of fine artists and not simply mechanical artists. Nanteuil created portraits of royalty and high society, taking character into account. He was also a talented and successful pastelist.
